Upcoming MRT Lines

Upcoming MRT Lines

As we know, there are already 5 existing MRT lines in Singapore namely the East-West (Green), North-South (Red), North-East (Purple), Circle Line (Orange) and Downtown Line (Blue).

However, we are set to have more upcoming MRT lines which will add a few more lines to our transport network in Singapore.

Ultimately, Singapore’s vision is to have 20 minutes journey to town and 45 minutes journey to the city.

Thompson East Coast Line

The Thompson East Coast Line or the brown line will add about thirty two new stations to our train network and commuters can start enjoying the new line when completed in stages beginning from year 2020.

The TEL will be completed in various stages from Stage 1 to Stage 5. As early as January 2020, stage one of the TEL will be completed. In around year 2024, Stage 5 will be completed.

The Thompson East Coast Line have a station at Woodlands North and will go all the way to Shenton Way, Marina Bay, Gardens by the Bay, Marine Parade, Sungei Bedok etc.

Jurong Region Line

The Jurong Region Line or the turquoise line is a twenty four kilometre line which will add around twenty four new stations to the train network.

It is set to be completed in 3 phases starting from year 2026 and the final phase when completed, will extend into Nanyang Technological University (NTU) area.

The Jurong Region Line will have a station at Choa Chu Kang and will go to Jurong East, Pandan Reservoir, Boon Lay, Jurong Pier, Peng Kang Hill etc.

Cross Island Line

The Cross Island Line or the Lime coloured line will begin works in year 2020 and the first stage is likely to be completed by year 2029.

The Cross Island Line will have a station at Bright Hill, Ang Mo Kio, Serangoon North, Tampines North, Paris Ris, Changi East Depot etc.

With more available routes and options via public transport, hopefully more people will consider going car lite and consider public transport instead of owning private vehicles.
